OUR STORY…
We started with a small patch of hillside in 2012. . . donated by Daw Yee, a local lady who owns a small rice mill in the village.
The local villagers, whose children now attend the school, helped to clear the land with bare hands and simple tools. Once we had money for an excavator for one afternoon things became easier.
With the help of our monks a simple local style building was erected.
As soon as we had a building, our school head, the Venerable Vijja Nanda (known as Ven Wiza) began teaching young women from the village to be teachers. The nearby nuns also came to learn English and improve their skills.
In 2013 we started teaching the village children – grades 1 to 6, who are enthusiastic and diligent. Most come from poor families and arrive at school without breakfast. We would like to be able to provide a good meal each lunchtime.
We have four second hand laptops donated from Australia but need more. We would also like to upgrade the electricity.
